The famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in the form of a cutout. The cut-out uses a scale of 1:160. The model belongs to the more complex paper models and is intended for more experienced modelers.

Model dimensions: 200 x 200 x 370mm

You can find all parameters for the model on the side tab. We provide maximum information for each model so that you can make the right decision regarding your purchase.

The Leaning Tower (Torre pendente) is located in Pisa, Italy. It stands on the Square of Miracles (Piazza dei Miracoli), also called the Cathedral Square (Piazza del Duomo). Here, together with the circular baptistery (baptismal chapel) and the cemetery, it is part of the church area around the local cathedral. The inclined tower of the circular plan itself, built of white marble, serves as a bell tower. It is almost 56 meters high.

Construction began in 1173, but shortly after construction began in 1174, it began to tilt. The reason is shallow foundations in soft rock. An interesting fact is that the tower originally leaned to the opposite side. The builders decided to level the slope by throwing stones and branches into the ground towards the foundations. The plan worked and the tower leveled off, but later it started to tilt again, this time to the opposite side. When it reached a height of three stories in 1185, its inclination was clearly shown. Work was interrupted, but 90 years later the leaning tower was extended by another floor. The new architect tried to stop further tilting by building the next floors slightly tilted to the other side to change the tower's center of gravity. This plan worked and the tower continued to tilt much more slowly. The builders eventually gave up on the original project (it was to become the tallest bell tower of its time) and in 1373 the sixth floor was finished with a stool for hanging the bells.

As the deflection of the top of the tower increased to more than 5 meters in the 20th century, the tower was closed to the public in 1990 and intensive rescue work began. Among other things, iron ropes, which strengthen the foundations, were sunk into the ground. Part of the soft clay subsoil located under the foundations of the tower was slowly and carefully suctioned out using special construction techniques.

The inclination of the tower (5.5°) gradually started to decrease and currently the deviation of the tower is only about 4 meters (4°). The tower was reopened in December 2001.
